Makeup Challenge: Creating a Special Effects Makeup Look Using the WRONG Hand!

By From the Experts, Makeup Tutorial, Special Effects Makeup, Tutorials & Tips No Comments

Want to challenge yourself this upcoming weekend? Try creating a unique special effects makeup look using ONLY your non-dominant hand!

Gabrielle Rivera Attempts This Special Effects Makeup Challenge

Gabrielle Rivera is a graduate of QC Makeup Academy’s Master Makeup Artistry Course. Since one of her biggest niches is special effects makeup, she naturally jumped all over this challenge!

In the following video, Gabrielle attempts to recreate an SFX face chart originally created by Lauren Sullivan. However, she was tasked with completing this application only using her right hand. As a natural lefty, this would obviously prove to be quit the task!

So, how did Gabrielle do? You’ll have to watch the video below to find out!

Want to see more of Gabrielle’s makeup work? Check out her Instagram for some seriously awesome content!

Why Gabrielle Nailed This Makeup Challenge

As you’ll see in the video, Gabrielle does a surprisingly great job at creating a full SFX makeup application using her non-dominant hand. If you’re wondering how this is possible, there’s actually a very simple answer.

(No, it’s not because she practiced a million times beforehand. We pinky promise!)

The truth is, it’s all due to the professional training Gabrielle already has under her belt. Although she wasn’t able to use her dominant hand, Gabrielle still knew exactly what she was supposed to be doing. You see, when you learn the fundamentals of makeup artistry, you’ll know how to apply them correctly – regardless of which hand you use.

Sure, the application might have looked a bit more polished and precise had Gabrielle used her left hand. But the fact that she didn’t and it still turned out as amazing as it did is a true testament to Gabrielle’s educational background and skill!

QC Makeup Academy Ambassador Feature Erica Cano Feature Image

QC Makeup Academy Ambassador Feature: Erica Cano

By Graduate Feature, QC Student Ambassador 11 Comments

Hi, Erica! In addition to being a graduate and current student of QC Makeup Academy, tell our readers a little bit more about yourself!

My name is Erica, but some call me Starr. I’ve been married for almost 9 years. I’m a mom of three, and one of my children has special needs. I love to play with makeup and create new looks! As you’ve already mentioned, I’ve graduated from two QC Makeup Academy certification courses and am currently enrolled in three more.

How did you get into the world of professional makeup artistry?

To be honest, I’ve always loved makeup and playing with people’s hair. In high school (and after), I used to do people’s hair and makeup for various special events. The chance to do a bridal application was actually what gave me an even deeper newfound love for makeup. From there, I started looking for a professional school.

Prior to getting professional training, how had you learned makeup?

I never had any training before starting courses with QC Makeup Academy. I’d google “hooded eye tutorial” or “eye liner how to” and teach myself based off what I found online. I picked up some skills along the way but wanted to learn makeup correctly.

QC Makeup Academy graduate, Erica Cano photo

Why did you decide to enroll in an online makeup school, rather than a brick-and-mortar one?

I chose to do online schooling because I focus better without a lot of people interrupting classes. An online setting allows me to zero in on my work without being disrupted. I can turn on music while studying or reading the books. I can lay out my assignments and have the space I need, versus a small school desk. Another perk is that I don’t have to deal with people playing games on their laptops in class.

How did you find out about QC Makeup Academy and what made you decide to enroll?

Good old Google! I did my due diligence in researching the school. We were able to see all the good reviews, as well as get a peak into the courses and course materials on QC Makeup Academy’s website. From there, I knew QC had a quality program. So, all that was left to do was decide when I wanted to start my classes!

You’ve since graduated from QC Makeup Academy’s Master Makeup Artistry and Skincare programs. In what ways has this training strengthened your skill-set and made you a better artist?

The Skincare Course made a HUGE difference – not only for my skin, but also in my skills as a makeup artist. Now I can look at someone’s skin and understand what prep work I need to do in order to make the makeup last.

The Master Makeup Artistry Course changed me in such a profound way, too. From matching foundation to creating a beautiful smoky eye, I learned it all! I’ve been able to train my eye to any see micro changes that need adjusting, as well as having an eye for it on others looks as well.

Erica Cano global beauty portfolio before and after images

You’re also currently enrolled in QC Makeup Academy’s Global Beauty Workshop, Hair Styling Essentials Workshop, and Virtual Makeup Training mini course. Why do you feel that these additional skills and qualifications will make your makeup career all the more successful?

Global Beauty was an easy decision. I live in a Metropolitan area that has every nationality you could think of. In my opinion, every makeup artist should be able to work on all skin colors and types. QC’s Global Beauty Course helps you with that.

Hair Styling Essentials was a course I took more for myself. However, I plan to use what I learn to help create bridal looks and offer hair styling alongside my business’s makeup services. And, of course, the Virtual Makeup Training Course is extremely helpful because it will teach me how to make revenue virtually!

How useful have the various course materials, assignments, and tutor feedback been? In what ways has your tutor feedback (specifically, the feedback you received from Nathan Johnson) helped you grow stronger as a makeup artist and skincare consultant?

The course materials, videos, and assignments provided by QC Makeup Academy were all very well-thought-out. The assignments are meant to push you and make you practice before submitting your work. It’s especially important to practice and get real-world training. Otherwise, your grade will reflect what you turn in.

The feedback I received from Nathan Johnson was exceptionally good. He knows how to provide motivating praise, while also pointing out the mistakes and changes that need to be made. Moreover, he also knows how to encourage you towards real growth. The tutor feedback provided at QC Makeup Academy really makes you look deeper into your work, so you can push yourself to try even harder. In my experience, Nathan has really been an awesome tutor!

What are the most important lessons you’ve learned so far from QC Makeup Academy’s professional certification training?

One of the lessons that was important for me to learn was taking constructive criticism and using it to benefit me. Sometimes, people take constructive feedback too harshly and get upset. But that is not what it’s meant to do! If you use it wisely, you will grow tremendously. Trust me on this one!

Learning the basics of makeup artistry was also super beneficial for me. People tend to rush through it because they may feel they are past that, or it is beneath them. But (and I can’t stress this enough) the basics are the most important thing to know – and know correctly.

Erica Cano portfolio image 3

As the parent of a special needs child with autism, you’re incredibly passionate about autism awareness. What advice would you give to other parents who have special needs children – as well as dreams of starting a career in the beauty industry?

Being an Autism mom is incredibly challenging. There are lots of good days and lots of bad ones. But as is the case with any special needs children, and I’m sure other moms would agree: it’s worth it as a parent to see the world through your child’s eyes.

I’m here to tell you that becoming a makeup artist while having a special needs child is NOT out of reach, fellow mommas. Not with QC Makeup Academy there to help you! In fact, it’s actually been surprisingly easy for me. A big reason for this is because QC’s courses are self-led. YOU pick your hours and the time spent on your assignments. Personally, I do my homework during the kids’ school hours and when the baby is asleep.

If I can do it, you can do it, too!

You’ve recently joined QC’s team of Student Ambassadors. As an Ambassador, what’s the #1 thing you want both aspiring and experienced makeup artists to know about QC Makeup Academy?

As a Student Ambassador, I feel it’s important for people to know that QC Makeup Academy is worth every dang penny! The school itself is extremely easy to work with. The tutors have years of experience and are very thorough in their feedback.

Honestly, if you are wanting to join, add the Skincare program to your list of courses! Heighten your career with a better understanding of skin and see how much better your makeup applications will be. Thank me later. 😉

Tell us a little about your beauty business, Erica Starr Makeup Artist & Skincare. What services do you currently offer, and what services do you want to offer in the future?

I currently offer makeup applications for bridal and other special occasions, as well as virtual skincare consultations. Once I finish the Hair Styling Essential Course, I want to offer hair styling services for special occasions, such as bridal up-dos. In the future, I would love to work on set.

Erica Cano portfolio image 4

What are your top career goals as a makeup artist?

As a makeup artist, my top career goals are to thrive and do some charity work, maybe by doing makeup for a special needs event. Also, I really want to become successful in bridal makeup. There is just something so special about being a bride’s makeup artist! Maybe it’s the way they feel afterwards and how happy they are for their big day. Either way, getting to be a part of their special day makes me happy!

What is the TOP piece of advice you’d give aspiring makeup artists who are thinking of starting their career in 2021?

If you’re thinking of starting your makeup career, my biggest advice is this: take your time on your courses and assignments. Do not turn in first tries!

Also, use the QC Makeup Academy Virtual Classroom to your advantage. This Facebook group has tutors and fellow peers who can help critique your work. Plus, all of QC’s Student Ambassadors are also in there – and they all have mad skills! Asking questions in the Virtual Classroom and using the search tool will give you an advantage in finding answers. Trust me, the search tool will be your best friend.

Do These 5 Viral TikTok Makeup Hacks ACTUALLY Work?

By Makeup Tips and Tricks, Makeup Trends, QC Student Ambassador No Comments

There are countless trending TikTok makeup hacks floating around out there… but do they actually work? QC Makeup Academy’s Student Ambassador, Amanda Ramey, is on the case and aims to find out once and for all!

Testing 5 Viral TikTok Makeup Hacks

Amanda Ramey is a professional makeup artist and a graduate of the following QC Makeup Academy certification programs:

  • Master Makeup Artistry
  • Pro Makeup Workshop
  • Airbrush Makeup Workshop
  • Special FX Makeup

In the following video, Amanda uses her professional knowledge and experience to test 5 popular TikTok makeup hacks. Her goal? To see if they achieve what they say they’ll achieve – or if they fail the test!

Want to connect with Amanda directly? Join QC Makeup Academy’s Virtual Classroom on Facebook today!

To Recap…

Amanda reviewed and tested out the following makeup hacks (as made popular on TikTok):

  • Face Lift Concealer Hack (1:02 – 3:27). After testing out this hack, keeping in mind the professional training under her belt, Amanda gave it a score of 9/10.
  • Fork Contour Hack (3:29 – 5:25). Scoring the lowest of all 5 viral TikTok makeup hacks, this one earned a painful (but warranted) 0/10 rating from Amanda.
  • Blush Hack (5:27 – 7:18). Thanks to this makeup hack’s accurate techniques and correct application, Amanda gave it a solid 10/10!
  • Eyebrow Tweezer Hack (7:20 – 10:04). There is so much wrong with this hack, we don’t even know where to begin. In fact, it got Amanda go shook that she didn’t even remember to rate it… But based on her reaction after trying it out, we think she probably gave it a -5/10.
  • Eyeliner Hack (10:05 – 12:50). While this hack technically works, it’s going to make symmetry and matching the other eye a major challenge. For these reasons, Amanda gave this hack a rating of 6/10.

Why NO TikTok Makeup Hacks Can Beat Professional Training

Makeup hacks are fun to try, – and definitely cool when they work as promised. However, they can never truly replace professional training! Learning makeup through social media will never be the same as learning proper practice from industry-trained experts.

Remember: when you learn makeup from influencers, you are only learning how to copy a style. Style is not the same as technique. Knowing only style will forever limit you to being a trend-follower.

Techniques, on the other hand, are the foundations you need to learn in order to be able to create different makeup styles. Technique will arm you with all the skills needed to be able to transcend, get creative, and become a trend-setter.

You need one in order to be able to master the other – but ALWAYS in this order. As the saying goes, “You have to learn to walk before you can run.”

Why Virtual Services = a Successful Makeup Career

Virtual beauty services are all the rage these days! In general, they’re a smart service to add to your business. Beyond the pandemic, virtual services will allow you to expand your client reach and work with anyone, regardless of location.

During COVID-19, however, virtual services offer added benefits. Here are just 3 reasons why they’ll allow you to thrive during a time of social distancing, lockdowns, and gathering restrictions:

  • In-person bookings might not yet be an option. Furthermore, clients may not yet feel comfortable with them. By offering a virtual alternative, you can continue to service your customers from the comfort of home!
  • You’ll still be able to make an income. There is a myriad of virtual options you can offer clients – from makeup walkthroughs to skincare consultations, and more. All of these services can easily be done over the phone or computer! As a result, you can continue operating your business, taking bookings, and earning a paycheck while in-person jobs are on a hiatus.
  • Now is the PERFECT time to attract a substantially larger number of clients. Market yourself and your virtual services correctly, and you can find yourself booking clients from all around the world – many of whom are in need of help during the pandemic.

What is ASMR?

ASMR stands for “autonomous sensory meridian response”. In a nutshell, it’s a term used to describe the sensation certain people feel when watching videos considered mentally or visually stimulating. Often times, these kinds of videos involve the person (or people) on camera taking part in an activity. The activity in question can range. This article breaks down 28 of the most common types of ASMR triggers typically found in popular videos.

Those who enjoy ASMR videos tend to have a visceral response to what they’re watching and/or hearing. For some, it can relieve stress and anxiety. With others, it brings a strong sense of satisfaction. For this reason, ASMR videos are also very popular ‘bedtime’ videos for those looking to fall asleep in a peaceful, relaxed state.

In This ASMR Makeup Tutorial…

Jordan relies primarily on the whispering and tapping ASMR triggers. That being said, there are a few other ones thrown in there as well! As he breaks down the different steps involved in putting together his everyday makeup look, Jordan also explains why he’s doing what he’s doing.

To recap: Jordan is professional makeup student currently working through the Master Makeup Artistry Course. Along the way, he’s been getting tons of invaluable feedback from his tutor, Nathan Johnson. As a direct result, Jordan’s skill-set has already improved leaps and bounds since he first enrolled!

Thus, he relies on these skills and techniques he’s been acquiring from his training to not only satisfy our ASMR desires – but educate us as well!

QC Makeup Academy Graduate Feature: Julie Walawender

By About the School, Education, Graduate Feature No Comments

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I am 50 years old and live in Buskirk, New York. My husband and I have a small horse farm. I’ve been an avid horseperson since I was a very young. Over the past 30 years, I’ve been involved with equine rescue, rehabilitation, and the retraining of ex-racehorses for new careers.

For the last several years, I have also operated a small bookkeeping business. Besides caring for my pets, my other passions in life are fashion and beauty – especially makeup. Despite being an outdoorsy person, I’ve always felt that regardless of what I do, it’s always important to put effort into my appearance. My day seems to go that much better when I do!

Why did you decide to become a professional makeup artist?

Helping others look beautiful and feel confident is something I have always dreamed of doing. It’s in my soul. In fact, I first started in the beauty industry back in my mid-20s, when I became a licensed nail tech. I had a great business and a big clientele. But then a chronic wrist condition from a horse accident left me unable to do my work, thus ending my career.

After that, I started my bookkeeping business. While I was happy with that, I always felt like something was missing. Then in late 2019, I became a consultant with Mary Kay. I really enjoyed that, but again, still felt like I wanted more.

Ironically, when COVID-19 hit a few months later, I found myself in a position where a change was necessary. At that point, I gave myself permission to pursue my dream of becoming a makeup artist… and so, here I am!

Julie Walawender portfolio image 1

Why did you choose to pursue professional training online?

Initially, it was because of COVID-19. Before I knew that online learning existed for makeup, I’d enrolled in a brick-and-mortar makeup school, but the classes all got postponed. After doing more research, I realized online learning is actually the better option, either way.

How did you hear about QC Makeup Academy and what was it about QC that made you decide to enroll?

I learned about QC Makeup Academy by Googling online makeup education. From there, I researched several online makeup education providers, but QC really stood out as the very best. The tutors are all extremely qualified, there’s a great support community of students and staff, and I was blown away by the student/grad work being showcased on their social media!

I thought to myself, This is the company I want to be in. If I’m going to invest my time, effort, and money into an education, I want to get a lot out of it. QC Makeup Academy was definitely the right choice for a dedicated person like myself!

How would you describe your makeup style? What’s your favorite makeup style?

I’d describe my makeup style as classic. I tend to avoid ‘trendy’ looks. My favorite makeup style for daytime is perfected skin paired with a soft eye look. I’d use a taupe color, a finely milled champagne shimmer, and a neutral lip color with a nice, dewy finish.

That said, I am a big fan of a dark and sultry smoky eye for evening. I’m also not at all shy about wearing bold, red lipstick!

So far, you’ve graduated from the Master Makeup Artistry, Airbrush, and Skincare courses. What’s the #1 most important thing you’ve learned from each individual course?

Master Makeup Artistry: The importance of mastering classic techniques, because these are the foundation for all looks.

Skincare: How to properly identify skin types. If you don’t know skin types, it’s impossible to effectively address skin concerns and make good recommendations for your clients.

Airbrush: Put in the time and master the skills on paper first. I spent 2 months on Unit A, working on paper. It was worth it! It takes time to develop solid airbrushing skills.

You’re also currently enrolled in QC Makeup Academy’s Virtual Makeup Training mini course. Why are you interested in offering virtual beauty services to clients, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Virtual beauty services allow clients to stay home, where they feel safe, while still doing something really fun and educational. Almost everything you can do in-person can also be accomplished virtually, so long as know how to go about it. I’m really looking forward to taking this course!

You’re also taking our Fashion Styling Course. How do you intend to incorporate fashion styling services into your makeup business?

I think it will be helpful to have the knowledge to assist my makeup clients with choices of colors and styles for photoshoots. I’d love to assist clients with choosing clothing that is not only a flattering color on them, but offers a flattering silhouette on their body type as well.

How useful have you found your QC Makeup Academy course materials? I.e. textbooks, videos, assignments, tutor feedback, etc.

Invaluable! I am amazed at the thorough feedback and level of care the tutors put into each and every detail of the work they receive. I’ve never in my life received  this level of tutoring. The textbooks are great resources and the videos are always very informative. It’s all very entertaining!

So far, what’s been your FAVORITE hands-on assignment and why?

This is a tough question. I have really enjoyed SO many assignments… I’d say that it’s a toss-up between two.

In the MMA Course, I loved the Unit E assignment, Editorial Makeup Application. For it, I chose to do a hair product ad. This was the first assignment where I  got to dress up, put my long, flowing wig on, and have fun taking pictures.

My other favorite assignment was in Unit C of the Airbrush Makeup Workshop. This assignment was called, Creating a Complete Fantasy Look.  I’ll admit, this one was very intimidating for me at first. But once I got some confidence, and started experimenting with what I’d learned in the course, it became really fun!

What has been the proudest moment in your makeup career so far?

My career is just beginning. So, I will say that one of my proudest moments was actually during QC Makeup Academy’s Master Makeup Artistry Course. Specifically, when I finally learned how to properly apply eyeshadow to my hooded eyes!

It took forever, it seemed. I practiced for so many hours. My tutor, Nathan Johnson, told me a dozen times to raise the shadow placement. But for some reason, it wasn’t clicking with me. After a lot of practice, it finally clicked and I was able to do it. That was a proud moment for me!

How do you think QC Makeup Academy has prepared you for working in the field?

Really, I can’t even count the ways! I feel so confident knowing that I have the education I need to take on any job that comes my way. Knowing I’ve gotten the proper training in classic techniques, color correction, and balance/focus helps me to feel confident.

I must add, what really gives me security is knowing I can log in any time and refresh my memory by watching the many QC webinars. Plus, I can consult with my fellow students and instructors about anything in the Virtual Classroom on Facebook!

What’s on the horizon for your makeup business in 2021 and beyond?

Right now, I have a studio at home, but I’m also prepared to travel. My short-term goal is to build a solid reputation in my area as a bridal, prom, and graduation makeup specialist. Beyond that, I am open to new possibilities as they arise!

If you could offer one piece of advice to every aspiring makeup artist out there, what would you tell them?

I’d tell them to invest in a good education, and take the time to learn and master the techniques. Of course, I would recommend that they do this by enrolling with QC Makeup Academy!

Makeup Artist Training Completed with QC: Master Makeup Artistry Graduate

Cincinnati, Ohio

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Ozella McClendon and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I’m a Preschool/Pre-K teacher and have been working with children for over 18 years. However, I have always had a passion for the makeup industry.

My love for makeup started when I was a teenager. I was introduced to it by my mother, who also had a passion for makeup and fashion. She was my first unofficial makeup instructor. My mother taught me how to apply foundation, eyeshadow, and lipstick. Her love for makeup and fashion was my inspiration to get makeup artist training and turn this into a real career!

Why did you decide to pursue makeup artist training and become a certified professional?

I miss my mother, who has been deceased for over 20 years. To be honest, I became a professional makeup artist so I could connect with her and heal from her passing. Every time I complete an application, I realize that my healing process is connected to each individual makeup application. Becoming a makeup artist not only provided me with a way to heal – it also allowed me to make one of my dreams a reality, too.

How would you describe your makeup style?

I’d describe my makeup style as bold, vibrant, and full of life. I love to apply various shades of colors to enhance the beauty of each model, while still considering the natural beauty of that model. Furthermore, I consider the shades of eyeshadows, lipstick, and eyeliner for their desired look.

I combine their ideas with mine and add creative enhancements to create their look. If my model asks me to create an application based on my own preferences, then I usually use bold and glamorous shades.

Why did you decide to pursue your makeup artist training online, rather than a brick-and-mortar classroom?

I decided to do my makeup artist training online because I needed the option of self-paced learning. As a full-time teacher, I needed a program that would fit with my work schedule.

The greatest part about completing your makeup training online – particularly with QC Makeup Academy – is the ability to watch the online tutorials. The online tutorials provided me with instructions that I could continually review at a later date. They’ve provided me with some greats tips that have helped me complete various makeup applications.

To me, the #1 advantage of attending online makeup classes is having daily access to materials and tutorials.

How did you find out about QC Makeup Academy? What made you choose to pursue your makeup artist training with this school?

I actually came across QC Makeup Academy back in 2019. I’d finally made the decision to become a professional MUA and was searching the internet for makeup artist training options available to me.

Once I discovered QC, I was SO excited about taking makeup classes! I was amazed by the different online courses they offered. At that moment, I knew I’d found the right program for me. So, I enrolled!

For me, the greatest aspects of attending QC Makeup Academy are:

  • Their makeup artist training is taught entirely online, so I can do it from anywhere;
  • It’s self-paced;
  • As a result, I can maintain my daily responsibilities.

Before enrolling in QC Makeup Academy’s Master Makeup Artistry Course, what would you say your skill level was with makeup? Did you have any prior professional makeup artist training?

I enrolled into QC Makeup Academy’s Makeup Master Artistry Course with some previous experience. I had basic knowledge about makeup from being taught by my mother. She showed me techniques that she’d learned over the years.

I read articles, watched tutorials, and practiced different ideas on myself. Plus, I took free makeup classes at a cosmetics store, as well as with a local makeup artist.

You’ve since graduated from this program. How was your experience with this course? How valuable were the course materials, assignments, and tutor feedback?

My experience with QC Makeup Academy was amazing. I’m glad I decided to enroll and do my makeup artist training through this school! In the beginning, I was provided with makeup brushes, a makeup kit, and books to assist me. The products provided in my makeup kit allowed me to jump into my studies right away.

Each unit provided me with the opportunity to practice steps of each makeup application. This was awesome because if I needed to make any corrections to the application, I was able to review the tutorial.

My tutor, Nathan Johnson, always took the time to look at every single photo and give me great feedback. Nathan provided suggestions on how I could improve my skills. This feedback, along with his words encouragement, gave me the inspiration needed to complete the Master Makeup Artistry program.

You completed the bulk of your makeup artist training during the COVID-19 pandemic. In what ways did QC Makeup Academy’s self-paced, online learning environment make it possible for you to graduate from your program during lockdown?

The ability to complete my makeup artist training during the lockdown was one of my greatest accomplishments in 2020. The fact that QC Makeup Academy sent all of my course materials right to my home was wonderful – especially in light of the pandemic.

Furthermore, being off work provided me the time to accomplish this particular goal. I had access to the online materials and I had physical access to the makeup kit QC sent me. Plus, I had the ability to chat with QC’s Student Support Staff whenever I needed. This made it easy for me to complete the Master Makeup Artistry Course!

In your opinion, what are 3 of the most important lessons you learned as a result of your makeup artist training with QC Makeup Academy?

Firstly, the most important lesson I’ve learned from my QC training is the placement of the product. Product placement determines the outcome of your makeup application. QC Makeup Academy taught me how to apply, blend, and identify the colors needed to achieve a successful makeup application.

Next, I also learned about which brushes to use when applying makeup. The brushes used to apply makeup play a major role in creating your client’s desired look. As such, it’s important to be able to identify and use the proper brushes for the proper products.

Lastly, I learned about color correction. A makeup artist must consider the various skin tones when applying makeup on a client. Choosing the right shade when color correcting can create a flawless application! If you choose a shade that does not complement your client’s skin, it will become a negative focal point of your makeup application. Ideally, the color correction for your client’s skin should blend into their natural complexion.

You’ve recently joined QC’s team of Student Ambassadors. As an Ambassador, what’s the #1 thing you want aspiring makeup artists to know about QC Makeup Academy?

As a graduate of the Master Makeup Artistry program, I can confidently say that I was able to learn SO much from QC’s makeup artist training! Their courses provide students with tutors who are true industry professionals. Moreover, students are given a variety of ways to learn (via tutorials, textbook learning, hands-on assignments, and more).

Then there’s also the invaluable feedback you’ll receive as a QC student. The feedback I personally received was encouraging. Even when I was given constructive criticism, it was done with love. My tutor feedback pushed me study my craft even harder, in order to make improvements. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who wants to be a professional MUA!

Now that you have makeup artist training and a certification under your belt, what are your top career goals as an MUA?

My top career goal is to become a freelance makeup artist with a specialization in bridal makeup. I’d like to prepare brides and their wedding parties for their special day. The idea of my work being displayed in photos and on social media brings great joy to my life!

I also want to create my own cosmetic line someday; developing various shades to enhance the beauty of people all over the world!

What is the #1 piece of advice you’d like to give to aspiring MUAs who are thinking of pursuing professional makeup artist training in 2021?

Have a willingness to learn new techniques!

It’s important to research and study different types of makeup applications. A makeup artist should strive to provide quality service. They should also be willing to receive feedback from clients. Your clients’ feedback concerning their experience with you can be a great learning too. Plus, it can also be an awesome way to promote your business!

Once you’re able to receive feedback from your clients, it will advance you to the next level in this industry. A makeup artist should constantly gain new skills, be open to feedback, and always consider the needs of the client. This will allow you to truly grow and develop your skills.
