QC Makeup Academy Graduate Feature: Julie Walawender

By About the School, Education, Graduate Feature No Comments

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I am 50 years old and live in Buskirk, New York. My husband and I have a small horse farm. I’ve been an avid horseperson since I was a very young. Over the past 30 years, I’ve been involved with equine rescue, rehabilitation, and the retraining of ex-racehorses for new careers.

For the last several years, I have also operated a small bookkeeping business. Besides caring for my pets, my other passions in life are fashion and beauty – especially makeup. Despite being an outdoorsy person, I’ve always felt that regardless of what I do, it’s always important to put effort into my appearance. My day seems to go that much better when I do!

Why did you decide to become a professional makeup artist?

Helping others look beautiful and feel confident is something I have always dreamed of doing. It’s in my soul. In fact, I first started in the beauty industry back in my mid-20s, when I became a licensed nail tech. I had a great business and a big clientele. But then a chronic wrist condition from a horse accident left me unable to do my work, thus ending my career.

After that, I started my bookkeeping business. While I was happy with that, I always felt like something was missing. Then in late 2019, I became a consultant with Mary Kay. I really enjoyed that, but again, still felt like I wanted more.

Ironically, when COVID-19 hit a few months later, I found myself in a position where a change was necessary. At that point, I gave myself permission to pursue my dream of becoming a makeup artist… and so, here I am!

Julie Walawender portfolio image 1

Why did you choose to pursue professional training online?

Initially, it was because of COVID-19. Before I knew that online learning existed for makeup, I’d enrolled in a brick-and-mortar makeup school, but the classes all got postponed. After doing more research, I realized online learning is actually the better option, either way.

How did you hear about QC Makeup Academy and what was it about QC that made you decide to enroll?

I learned about QC Makeup Academy by Googling online makeup education. From there, I researched several online makeup education providers, but QC really stood out as the very best. The tutors are all extremely qualified, there’s a great support community of students and staff, and I was blown away by the student/grad work being showcased on their social media!

I thought to myself, This is the company I want to be in. If I’m going to invest my time, effort, and money into an education, I want to get a lot out of it. QC Makeup Academy was definitely the right choice for a dedicated person like myself!

How would you describe your makeup style? What’s your favorite makeup style?

I’d describe my makeup style as classic. I tend to avoid ‘trendy’ looks. My favorite makeup style for daytime is perfected skin paired with a soft eye look. I’d use a taupe color, a finely milled champagne shimmer, and a neutral lip color with a nice, dewy finish.

That said, I am a big fan of a dark and sultry smoky eye for evening. I’m also not at all shy about wearing bold, red lipstick!

Julie Walawender portfolio image 2

So far, you’ve graduated from the Master Makeup Artistry, Airbrush, and Skincare courses. What’s the #1 most important thing you’ve learned from each individual course?

Master Makeup Artistry: The importance of mastering classic techniques, because these are the foundation for all looks.

Skincare: How to properly identify skin types. If you don’t know skin types, it’s impossible to effectively address skin concerns and make good recommendations for your clients.

Airbrush: Put in the time and master the skills on paper first. I spent 2 months on Unit A, working on paper. It was worth it! It takes time to develop solid airbrushing skills.

You’re also currently enrolled in QC Makeup Academy’s Virtual Makeup Training mini course. Why are you interested in offering virtual beauty services to clients, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Virtual beauty services allow clients to stay home, where they feel safe, while still doing something really fun and educational. Almost everything you can do in-person can also be accomplished virtually, so long as know how to go about it. I’m really looking forward to taking this course!

You’re also taking our Fashion Styling Course. How do you intend to incorporate fashion styling services into your makeup business?

I think it will be helpful to have the knowledge to assist my makeup clients with choices of colors and styles for photoshoots. I’d love to assist clients with choosing clothing that is not only a flattering color on them, but offers a flattering silhouette on their body type as well.

How useful have you found your QC Makeup Academy course materials? I.e. textbooks, videos, assignments, tutor feedback, etc.

Invaluable! I am amazed at the thorough feedback and level of care the tutors put into each and every detail of the work they receive. I’ve never in my life received  this level of tutoring. The textbooks are great resources and the videos are always very informative. It’s all very entertaining!

So far, what’s been your FAVORITE hands-on assignment and why?

This is a tough question. I have really enjoyed SO many assignments… I’d say that it’s a toss-up between two.

In the MMA Course, I loved the Unit E assignment, Editorial Makeup Application. For it, I chose to do a hair product ad. This was the first assignment where I  got to dress up, put my long, flowing wig on, and have fun taking pictures.

My other favorite assignment was in Unit C of the Airbrush Makeup Workshop. This assignment was called, Creating a Complete Fantasy Look.  I’ll admit, this one was very intimidating for me at first. But once I got some confidence, and started experimenting with what I’d learned in the course, it became really fun!

What has been the proudest moment in your makeup career so far?

My career is just beginning. So, I will say that one of my proudest moments was actually during QC Makeup Academy’s Master Makeup Artistry Course. Specifically, when I finally learned how to properly apply eyeshadow to my hooded eyes!

It took forever, it seemed. I practiced for so many hours. My tutor, Nathan Johnson, told me a dozen times to raise the shadow placement. But for some reason, it wasn’t clicking with me. After a lot of practice, it finally clicked and I was able to do it. That was a proud moment for me!

Julie Walawender portfolio image 4

How do you think QC Makeup Academy has prepared you for working in the field?

Really, I can’t even count the ways! I feel so confident knowing that I have the education I need to take on any job that comes my way. Knowing I’ve gotten the proper training in classic techniques, color correction, and balance/focus helps me to feel confident.

I must add, what really gives me security is knowing I can log in any time and refresh my memory by watching the many QC webinars. Plus, I can consult with my fellow students and instructors about anything in the Virtual Classroom on Facebook!

What’s on the horizon for your makeup business in 2021 and beyond?

Right now, I have a studio at home, but I’m also prepared to travel. My short-term goal is to build a solid reputation in my area as a bridal, prom, and graduation makeup specialist. Beyond that, I am open to new possibilities as they arise!

If you could offer one piece of advice to every aspiring makeup artist out there, what would you tell them?

I’d tell them to invest in a good education, and take the time to learn and master the techniques. Of course, I would recommend that they do this by enrolling with QC Makeup Academy!

5 Perks You’ll Only Find Through Online Makeup School [video]

By About the School, Career Advice, Education, Student Ambassador, Your Makeup Career 2 Comments

So, you want to be a professional makeup artist. Awesome! Now the question is: should you pursue your certification training through a brick-and-mortar or online makeup school?

5 Unique Perks You’ll Only Find From an Online Makeup School

Jordan Garcia is a student of the following QC Makeup Academy programs:

A Quick Recap

There are LOTS of benefits when it comes to training with a reputable online makeup institution. However, these are the Top 5 perks that Jordan discusses in the above video:

  1. Online makeup schools offer more affordable tuition than brick-and-mortar schools.
  2. Unlike in-person classrooms, the learning environment is much more flexible (often being self-paced) with most online schools.
  3. Since training can be done from quite literally anywhere you want, online makeup school is much more convenient.
  4. Rather than having one tutor mentoring an entire classroom, your online tutor will be working with only you. Thus, your training will be much more personalized!
  5. As a QC student in particular, you gain access to a much larger network than you would in most brick-and-mortar schools.

Remember: the right online makeup institution will offer the exact same quality of learning as you’d find in a brick-and-mortar school. In fact, a lot of people who’ve trained in both environments have stated that online makeup training (from a reputable school, of course) has been even better than in-person classes.

  • QC’s online courses eliminate the need to travel or take time out of your personal schedule! Unlike brick-and-mortar makeup classes, there are no due dates and no rigid schedules to follow. Thus, you can train at your own pace and in your own space. If that means one hour a week, once the kiddies are in bed, then that’s totally fine!
  • You get 2 full years to finish your training! Being a full-time parent is a major commitment in-and-of itself. Your goal of becoming a makeup artist shouldn’t get in the way of your parental priorities. Thanks to QC’s 2-year time limit, there will never be any pressure to rush assignments (or your training in general).
  • QC’s courses are EXTREMELY affordable! As a full-time parent, you might very well be on a strict budget. That’s okay! Becoming a makeup artist doesn’t need to break the bank – not when QC offers low monthly payment plans AND monthly promotional deals.

QC Makeup Academy Ambassador Alba Carpio feature image

Ambassador Feature: Alba Carpio

By About the School, Student Ambassador 2 Comments

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Alba R. Carpio, and my life has been a roller coaster for the past few years. But right now, I can say I’m happily married and a proud mom. My love for characterization, sci-fi, and horror films started when I was a kid. When I went to University, I got my Bachelor Degree in Architecture.

However, when my father passed away, everything changed. I went through a very hard time; dealing with depression and anxiety. During this time, my passion for makeup revived. At first, I used it as a therapy. But it ending up becoming my safe place.

What made you decide to change career paths and switch from architecture to makeup artistry?

When I graduated, we had plans to move to Europe. But when my father passed away, we had to stay in Mexico and take care of the family business. Then I became pregnant. At that time, my husband and I decided it would be best for me to stay at home.

If I’m being honest, I revived my love for makeup through social media and watching influencers. Over time, though, that wasn’t enough. I wanted to learn everything in a professional way – especially Special FX makeup. So, I investigated all of my options and that’s how I found QC Makeup Academy. This school gave me the possibility of doing this as a career!

Prior to getting any training, you mentioned that you learned makeup primary through social media. When was it you realized that social media makeup is completely different from real-world makeup?

I actually found this out the hard way. One day, I got a phone call from my husband, asking me out on a romantic date. I wanted to surprise him with the makeup techniques I’d just learned from YouTube. When we arrived at the restaurant, he said in a very gentle way, “Babe, I think you have dirt on your face… take this tissue so you can clean up.”

It was embarrassing! But when I looked in the mirror, it was obvious that my contour was completely overdone. As QC Makeup Academy makes clear in their training, social media and real-life makeup are designed for completely different environments. Social media makeup is definitely not meant for everyday life.

QC Makeup Academy Ambassador Alba Carpio Portfolio Image 1
QC Makeup Academy Ambassador Alba Carpio Portfolio Image 2

Why did you decide to enroll in an online makeup school, rather than an in-person one?

Between being a new mom and dealing with all the tasks of running the family business, I had no time or energy to go to a physical school. But QC Makeup Academy did give me time and space to do my courses at my own pace. Plus, their amazing programs have been designed by industry professionals, and are led by the best of the best, in terms of tutors. This all gave me confidence that I was making a good investment.

So, how did you find out about QC Makeup Academy?

Online research! I knew that with my schedule, the only way I was going to be able to study was with an online school. I investigated very carefully into all my options. Once I found QC Makeup Academy, I quickly say that they offered everything I wanted!

Some of the reasons I chose to enroll are:

  • You have up to 2 years to finish your courses.
  • You have options to pay the course all at once or through affordable payment plans.
  • QC Makeup Academy’s certifications are internationally-recognized.
  • QC’s accredited with an A+ ranking by the Better Business Bureau.
  • They have very complete and interesting programs suitable for both beginning and advanced makeup artists.
  • Students are provided with personalized feedback from professional tutors.

You’ve since graduated from QC’s Master Makeup Artistry Course and Special FX Makeup Course. How was your experience with these programs, and how would you say they’ve helped you grow as a makeup artist?

QC changed my life in the best possible way. It’s not just the experience of learning professional makeup techniques; it’s also the personalized feedback you get from your tutors. They take the time to analyze your work and give you constructive criticism. Their goal is to help you grow by offering you advice, tips, tricks, and encouragement to be the best version of yourself as an artist.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an advanced student. Your previous experience, social medial followers, or job position doesn’t matter either. QC Makeup Academy always make you feel respected and welcome. Personally, my makeup skills are now at a completely different level when compared to where they were at 3 years ago!

You’re also currently enrolled in QC Makeup Academy’s Skincare Course, Pro Makeup Workshop, and Airbrush Makeup Workshop. Why do you feel that these additional skills and qualifications will make your makeup career all the more successful?

I firmly believe that all of QC’s programs properly complement one another. For example, skincare is very important because it helps you understand how to take care of your canvas. With this basic knowledge, it’s easier to personalize the makeup routine for each client, since everyone has different skin types and needs.

The Pro Makeup Workshop goes into more detail about advanced makeup techniques, concepts, and applications. This next-level program is meant to help you perfect your skills and build upon what you learned in the MMA Course. Finally, the Airbrush Workshop adds yet another level of professionalism to your craft, both in beauty makeup and SFX makeup.

I can’t stop learning – this career path is just so fascinating to me!

How useful have the various course materials, assignments, and tutor feedback been? In what ways have they helped you grow stronger as an MUA?

At this moment of my life, I am mainly a social media makeup artist. But I also book the occasional freelance job for film, bridal, or special event makeup on the weekends. The knowledge I’ve gotten from QC Makeup Academy has helped me understand when to use certain makeup techniques, according to the occasion.

Like I said before, social media makeup is designed for a self-controlled, 2D environment. Real-life makeup, on the other hand, is designed for a high-definition, 3d environment. You can’t control the angles in which your artistry will be showcased. So, you need to understand the proper techniques… because there’ll be no place to hide imperfections!

QC Makeup Academy Ambassador Alba Carpio Portfolio Image 3

What are the most important lessons you’ve learned so far from QC Makeup Academy’s professional training?

With QC Makeup Academy, you learn:

  • The importance of skincare;
  • Proper makeup application for every kind of client;
  • Lifesaving makeup techniques;
  • How to treat your clients;
  • And more.

But to me, the MOST important lessons I’ve learned have been about proper hygiene and etiquette as an MUA. This knowledge alone elevates you to another level! Most aspiring makeup artists nowadays educate themselves strictly with YouTube videos.

However, beyond the popular trends and/or makeup tutorials available on social media, it’s very uncommon to find educational videos discussing topics such as taking care of your makeup kit, sanitizing your tools, etc. Being a makeup artist is so much more than simply applying makeup to another person’s face. This type of education is essential for success.

You’ve recently joined QC’s team of Student Ambassadors. As an Ambassador, what’s the #1 thing you want aspiring makeup artists to know about QC Makeup Academy?

QC Makeup Academy will give you the basic tools you need to pursue a successful career as a makeup artist. It doesn’t matter which area you want to grow in professionally – they cover it all!

Once you have these tools, it’ll then be up to YOU to become the artist you want to be. For that, you will need to dedicate time and practice. My personal experience has been amazing. I couldn’t be more grateful for what QC has done for me. As a Student Ambassador, I want to help others follow their own dreams.

You have over 266k followers on TikTok and over 17k on YouTube. What advice would you give to new MUAs for growing their online presence and increasing their following?

My social media channels were never about having a big following or becoming popular. They started as a personal space where I could express myself and what I love. They’ve helped me heal and make it through a very difficult time in my life.

What I can tell makeup artists who want to grow their social media is to NEVER let the numbers control you. Don’t let the views discourage you, or the likes make you feel as if you are not talented enough. Just do what you love and the numbers will come eventually.

What are your top career goals as a makeup artist?

I believe there is no small job. Everything can give you experience and knowledge to grow as an artist!

To start, I want to retire from our job at the family business and dedicate myself full-time to makeup artistry. I’m currently working towards this now. I also want to travel to congresses, take makeup master classes around the world, and eventually, teach them myself. Additionally, I’d like to dedicate more time to my social media and explore different makeup techniques I haven’t tried yet. I’d also love to learn even more about Special FX makeup.

I guess, when I think about it, I just want to try it ALL!

What is the #1 piece of advice that you’d like to give to aspiring makeup artists who are thinking of pursuing a professional career in 2021?

I want to inspire others to never give up on themselves. It’s is never too late to pursue your dream career! There’s honestly no better feeling than dedicating your life to something that makes you happy and that you have passion for. You’ll never get tired of it.

If this is what you want to do for the rest of your life, just go with it! QC Makeup Academy will give you all the tools you need, but it’ll be up to you to figure out how you want to use them.

I Thought I Couldn’t Learn How to Do Makeup Online…I Was Wrong!

By About the School, Education, QC Student Ambassador 2 Comments

Luzaan de Bruyn is a graduate and Student Ambassador of QC Makeup Academy. She is also the proud founder of Beauty by Luzaan and specializes in traditional, SFX, and airbrush makeup. Today, Luzaan reveals why she originally believed she could never learn how to do makeup online – and how QC Makeup Academy completely changed her mind!

There I was, sitting on Facebook like I did every day. On this fateful day, however, I happened to scroll across an advertisement from QC Makeup Academy. Their ad said that they could help me become a trained, certified makeup artist – all from the comfort of my own home.

I’m not even going to lie: I initially thought that QC was totally full of it.

“How is it even possible to learn how to do makeup online?” I thought to myself. “Not a chance. That’s completely silly. The only way to properly learn makeup would be in a real classroom.”

Maybe it was morbid curiosity. Maybe the notion of a school so confident in its ability to turn you into a professional MUA via distanced learning had me amused. Either way, I wound up saving the advertisement and sharing it with my husband later that night.

Here’s the thing: I knew absolutely nothing about makeup. I mean, I was still piling on foundation with my hands. If I was going to get on an expert’s level, the training I needed would have to be legit. After all, I’d be started from ground zero. The idea that an online school would be able to teach me everything I need to know?

It just seemed fishy to me.

But I kept returning to that ad over the next few days. I just couldn’t seem to forget about it and move on. So, I decided to do some research. I started looking into QC Makeup Academy and their online makeup courses. The more research I did, the more convinced I became that maybe – just maybe – it actually was possible to learn how to do makeup online.

Eventually, I found myself taking a few deep breaths and suddenly pressing the enroll button. The ironic part is that I wasn’t even all that interested in makeup artistry when I did this. Weird, right? But something inside me told me to try it anyways.

Was it boredom? Was it fate? I’ll let you decide!

woman learning how to do makeup from laptop video

Why I Was Skeptical About Learning How to Do Makeup Online

Like I said, before I enrolled in QC’s Master Makeup Artistry Course, I had absolutely no background in makeup. I used foundation that 2 shades darker than my skin tone, I didn’t even know blending was a thing, and I had one shade of eyeshadow that I pretty much worked into every look. Needless to say, I was a complete newbie and a total disaster.

A lot of my skepticism actually stemmed from my experiences with social media makeup. I follow a LOT of Instagram influencers. Many of them have posted tutorials and hacks in the past. Of course, I would try them. But each time I did, I’d look horrible. And I’m not even exaggerating – I absolutely do mean HORRIBLE.

Thus planted the seed in my head; the one that told me, “It’s impossible to truly learn how to do makeup online!” The issue – I assumed – was that without being able to learn in a real classroom, with a real tutor, it couldn’t be done. After all, if a famous makeup influencer’s tutorials couldn’t teach me correctly, how could an online makeup school?

makeup vlogger applying makeup on camera

My Journey into Makeup Artistry

Okay, I know what you’re probably thinking: If you were so skeptical about online learning, why did you enroll with QC Makeup Academy in the first place? Why take such a risk?

Here’s the honest truth: I enrolled because despite my skepticism, the idea of learning makeup online – if it was indeed possible – was attractive to me. I’m a mom of four and a private wildlife rehabilitator. I knew I’d never have a free hour to go to a brick-and-mortar class.

Initially, my goal in becoming an MUA was simply to be able to earn an extra income that I could put towards the rescue, since I run and fund it entirely on my own. (Also, if I’m being honest, being able to make some side money to fund my shopping addiction was also a definite incentive.)

In the beginning, that was enough to push me to take that leap of faith and try out online makeup school. However, I never would have guessed that this decision would lead me to my true passion: beauty.

How QC Proved Me Wrong

Within 1-2 days after enrolling, I received my login details for QC Makeup Academy’s Online Student Center. I’ll be honest: I didn’t even wait for my physical makeup kit or books to arrive by mail. I didn’t have to – all of my books were available directly to me online! So, I figured I’d jump right in.

Right away, I was surprised to see all of the tutor videos, all of the booklets and handouts, and all of the hands-on assignments! My tutor was celebrity makeup artist, Nathan Johnson. I watched all his videos within that first week of enrolling.

He was so informative, interesting, and fun! He truly is the sunshine after the rain. It was impossible not to feel inspired by him; like I actually could learn how to do makeup this way so long as I was willing to work hard, put in the time, and give it my full effort.

My course delved into the fundamentals of makeup artistry. Whenever it came time to learn an application, the videos would break it down for me step-by-step. There was so much detail and explanation! QC’s courses are so layered and gripping that it didn’t take long before I found myself developing a fiery passion for makeup!

I woke up thinking about makeup and went to bed thinking about makeup. I was excited to practice each and every single day.

After I submitted my first assignment, I got AMAZING creative criticism and advice from Nathan. He pushed me to go where I never thought I’d find myself! In fact, his guidance – combined with how much I was enjoying the course itself – was so fantastic that it wasn’t long before I wanted more.

I was still working through my Master Makeup Artistry Course, but I knew I’d want to continue my training once that was completed. So, I also enrolled in the Airbrush Makeup Workshop and the Special FX Makeup Course. QC Makeup Academy truly proved that you can easily learn how to do makeup from an online course – if you put in the hands-on work they expect from you and are willing to challenge yourself.

Honestly, after experiencing life as a QC Makeup Academy student, I can confidently say that I’ll never study through a brick-and-mortar school. QC Makeup Academy’s flexible, online learning environment provides for all my needs.

So, Can You Actually Learn How to Do Makeup Online?

Yes, yes, 1000% yes!

Through QC, I’ve gotten the expand my knowledge both through theory-based learning and real-world makeup experience. I’ve had the privilege of a one-on-0ne environment where it’s just my tutor and me. (Something I could’ve never found in a physical classroom!) To me, this kind of environment allowed me to establish a personal connection with my mentor. I always knew that Nathan focused entirely on my work, my results, and my journey.

At the same time, just because it’s an online school doesn’t mean that you’re isolated or forced to go through your journey alone. On the contrary, I could communicate and connect with other QC students and graduates in the Virtual Classroom on Facebook. I’ve lost count of how many friends I’ve made. We’re all like family to one another; providing support, constructive feedback, love, and motivation.

Now that I’ve done my professional makeup training online, I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way. It’s almost like the industry’s best-kept secret – but it deserves to be out in the open now, for all to know!

Your quality of learning will be just as good – if not better – than it would be in a brick-and-mortar school, but for a fraction of the cost. You’ll get to earn your certification on your own time, at your own pace, and in your very own home. This means that you’ll be able to push towards the career of your dreams, even during a global pandemic. Like me!

I guess my question to you is: will YOU follow your dreams, like I did? Will YOU find your passion in makeup, like I did?

If the answer is yes… then what are you waiting for? 😜

Feel free to come join our Virtual Classroom and connect with me directly. I’d be happy to chat more about my experience and answer any questions you might have. I love to meet and help future students!

Thank you for reading my blog. I’ll be waiting for you to come say hello! Lot of love to you. xx

What It’s Like To Be a QC Makeup Academy Student Ambassador

By About the School, Student Ambassador No Comments

Nadia Calabro is a graduate of QC’s Master Makeup Artistry Course, Pro Makeup Workshop, and Skincare Course. Today, she reveals what it’s like to be a Student Ambassador for QC Makeup Academy!

woman giving thumbs up

What is a Student Ambassador?

In a nutshell, a Student Ambassador is a student or alumnus that has been chosen to represent their school. They will often act as the ‘middle person’; bridging any gaps between current/prospective students and the institution itself. A Student Ambassador will also be there to help answer questions, share their own experience, and help promote the school to others.

Being chosen as a Student Ambassador for QC Makeup Academy is both a privilege and a rewarding job. When you’re selected for this role, you are being entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the school’s reputation, its brand, and its message. You become the face behind the name, thereby bringing the school come to life and making it all the more relatable to other people.

Why I Wanted to Become a Student Ambassador

When I saw that QC Makeup Academy had launched its very own Student Ambassador program, I knew right away that I wanted in! It’s no secret that I’m completely in love with QC’s makeup certification courses. I’m even more in love with the amazing community that has been built around this school.

Personally, I’ve learned so much through my studies at QC. My experience with the staff, students, and the training itself was all incredible. I wanted to use this platform as a way to share my experience with everyone! As a Student Ambassador, I knew I’d be able to connect with my fellow students (as well as potential students) in a meaningful way. I’d be part of a safe place where students – and even staff – could go for advice, support, and encouragement.

Perks of Being a QC Makeup Academy Student Ambassador

Joining the Affiliate Program

Once QC Makeup Academy selects you to become a Student Ambassador, you will automatically be approved for their Affiliate Program. Perhaps you’ve heard this term before, but never quite understood what it really meant. Basically, though, it means this:

The Affiliate Program gives you the opportunity to earn money through your own website and social media platforms. You sign up for the program through QC’s website. Once approved, you’re provided with your very own Affiliate link. From there, all you need to do is choose a banner and then add it to your website and/or social media pages.

Once this done, QC does the rest of the work for you! If someone follows your Affiliate link and then chooses to enroll with QC sometime within 90 days after that, you’ll earn a $50 commission! QC monitors the referrals themselves and pays you for them – so you can quite literally set it and forget it.

It’s one of the easiest ways to make a bit of extra money. Plus, becoming an Affiliate member also designates you as being a partner of one of the world’s largest online makeup schools! Being a part of this program helps both you and QC Makeup Academy by generating more traffic to your website, while also promoting and advertising the school.

It’s a win-win for everyone!

Creating Original Content

As a Student Ambassador, there will be another way for you to make money. Every month, QC will assign you your very own content creation project! These projects typically require you to write a blog article or film a YouTube video.

Once QC has received your final product and approves it for publishing, you’re then compensated for your work. While most of your projects will be created for the purpose of being published on one of QC’s platforms, this isn’t always the case.

One specific perk of being an Ambassador is that QC Makeup Academy is dedicated to helping you grow your own original business content, too. For instance, if you want to add a blog to your website, they’ll specifically give you projects here and there that are meant to be published on YOUR platform. The same goes with YouTube videos, IGTV videos, etc.

No Experience? No Problem!

The idea of writing blogs and/or filming videos might seem intimidating – especially if you have no prior experience.

But don’t let this deter you! For starters, you have the freedom to choose if you’d prefer one type of project over another. If you love writing and have no interest in making videos, for instance, simply let QC know this and they’ll only assign you writing projects.

Furthermore, prior experience is NOT mandatory. Some of QC’s current Student Ambassadors were completely new to blog writing and video making, too. QC’s team makes sure to provide you with ample resources to guide you onto the right path, strengthen your writing and video skills, etc. Plus, whenever you’re assigned a project, you’re given a thorough PDF breakdown containing everything you need to know, abide by, and keep in mind for that particular project.

These content creation projects are an amazing opportunity to gain free knowledge, and refine your writing and vlogging skills. You can easily use these skills in your own business – or any job you’re applying to, for that matter!

Building Your Skill-Set

When you create the content creation projects mentioned above, there are many other skills you’ll develop along the way. These skills will not only be directly applicable throughout your career – they’ll set you up for even more success in the long run!

Firstly, your content creation projects will make you more organized and better capable of planning out strategies. As a Student Ambassador, your ideas and work must be properly thought-out, from Point A to Point Z. This is the only way to guarantee the success of your project.

Putting in minimal effort simply won’t cut it. So, you push yourself to always do the best you possibly can. By adopting this mentality early on, you’re setting the standard within yourself for your future career as a makeup artist. You’ll have high expectations for yourself and work diligently to meet them.

Being an Ambassador will also strengthen your professionalism and people skills. When working as a Student Ambassador, you’ll regularly deal with QC Makeup Academy employees, current student, potential students, and alumni.  You’ll need to conduct yourself in a professional manner in order to maintain your position and represent the QC name effectively.

All of this will make you better equipped for the real world – as well as achieving your own business endeavors – once you start working in the field!

networking on social media

Networking

As a Student Ambassador for QC Makeup Academy, you’ll get to meet countless new people within your industry. You’ll build friendships and professional networking opportunities. Ultimately, this will allow you to expand your business in ways you might not have been able to before.

There are also Focus Groups, which I think is particularly awesome. In these Focus Groups, you get to chat in real time with your fellow Ambassadors, share your input and ideas, give feedback on current courses, and even provide suggestions for courses you’d like to see in the future!

This is your opportunity to start shedding YOUR light on the industry while getting professional, meaningful feedback!

My Personal Experience as a QC Makeup Academy Student Ambassador

Being a Student Ambassador has been such a great experience for me! I’ve learned so much that I’m confident will help me in my career as a makeup artist and beauty expert. For instance, I’d always wanted to start my own blog, but I didn’t know where or how to do this.

Then I became an Ambassador for QC. Their support and guidance, combined with the experience I’ve been gaining, has given me the confidence to finally build my own business blog!

I also never used to feel comfortable or confident enough to show the person behind the screen. But as an Ambassador, I’ve pushed myself to film videos for my own business, just as a way to practice for the videos I’d be tasked to do for QC Makeup Academy.

Well, guess what? These videos I created for my business have since attracted a LOT more network connections and clientele to me!

Being an ambassador has given me a different voice in QC’s Virtual Classroom on Facebook as well. People now come to me and listen to my advice and experiences, because they can trust that I will be totally open and honest with them. The lessons I have been taught through QC will always be my favorite. I know they will take me to many great places, both personally and professionally.

How to Become a Student Ambassador

Now that I have spiked your curiosity, here’s how to actually become a QC Student Ambassador…

  • Complete at least half of your QC course, or be a graduate.
  • Maintain an average of B+ or higher in your course.
  • Head here and read over the Student Ambassador guidelines.
  • Submit your application.
  • From there, the QC Student Ambassador Program Manager, Sarah Seguin, will contact you. If all looks well with the application, you will be invited to have a virtual interview.
  • Following this virtual interview, you’ll be required to submit a writing and/or video sample for review.
  • Once all the steps have been completed, you’ll be notified within 24-48 hours and told whether you’re being offered the position.

If you’re now ready to submit your Student Ambassador application, I wish you the best of luck. Maybe we’ll get to work together someday! 💕

Why You Should Join the QC Makeup Academy Virtual Classroom!

By About the School, Student Ambassador No Comments

Cheri Stevens is a Student Ambassador of QC Makeup Academy. She is currently enrolled in the Master Makeup Artistry Course.

Hello everyone, I’m Cheri Stevens. Like with many other MUAs, I first became interested in makeup back in my teens. While everyone was wearing the best blue eyeshadow and lots of shimmer (hey, it WAS the 80’s), I was wondering how I could take it to the next level. I was obsessed by the way the people in film and TV always had such amazing, precise looks. They were so subtle, yet so gorgeous. I wanted to learn more and be able to do that for a living!

So, last year, I decided to investigate into different makeup schools. I quickly found that there were not a lot of options out there that provided distanced learning, which was what I wanted. I kept seeing ads for various schools, but nothing stood out to me.

That is, until I saw an ad for QC Makeup Academy!

Finding QC Makeup Academy

I was incredibly impressed with how informative their website was. The training can be done from home, while still having your tutors at your disposal whenever you require assistance. Plus, their easy payment options were a definite bonus! Everything I saw made it more than clear that QC was the best school for my particular needs!

Becoming Part of a Family

Part of being a QC Makeup Academy student is the large, amazing community that you instantly become involved with. I can network with other students, bounce ideas, get critiques, and receive support. The people you meet and chat with on a regular basis quickly become like a second family, which is truly amazing. I’ve yet to see a similar sense of community from any other school!

This is where the Virtual Classroom on Facebook comes into play. The Virtual Classroom is a private group where we can help each other in a centralized, safe space. Current, past, and even prospective students are given the chance to can get together to discuss all things makeup and beauty-related. At this point, I’ve lost count of how many hours each day I spend in there! It’s truly a fun place to discuss the industry, and all things makeup!

What other school has this option?

Past Students

No matter how long ago you completed your course, you’ll always be welcome in the Virtual Classroom. Keep everyone updated on what’s going on in your career and be cheered on along the way!

Prospective Students

If you’re interested in enrolling with QC Makeup Academy, you’re invited to join the Virtual Classroom for a 2-week, no strings attached trial! My Experience in the Virtual Classroom

I personally LOVE being a member of the Virtual Classroom! I can get advice, as well as be there to help others on their own journeys. The Virtual Classroom has helped me hone my craft – but even more importantly, everyone there has become my little makeup family. My network is getting bigger and bigger as a result! Ambassador Feature: Paula Alleyne

By About the School, Student Ambassador No Comments

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Paula Alleyne. I am married, live in the wonderful Caribbean island of Barbados, and I decided to take makeup artistry more seriously within the last three years. It’s only when I started on my professional makeup journey that I realized my love for makeup actually began years ago.

When I was younger, I remember doing makeup on my neighbor. I loved being able to do something that helped boost her self esteem. I also always loved to read makeup books and fashion magazines, and I was absolutely enthralled with eye shadows.

As I became serious about makeup artistry, I became more selective of who I followed on social media. Once I knew that I wanted to only learn from the best, I decided I wanted to become professionally trained.

Why did you decide to become a professional makeup artist?

The answer to this is two-fold:

  1. I wanted to develop my brand as a qualified makeup professional, and
  2. I didn’t want to just follow what everyone was doing on social media. Instead, I wanted to learn the actual techniques and proper education behind makeup application.

How would you describe your makeup style? Do you have a particular niche?

My makeup style is clean and classic. My niche is for persons who prefer natural enhancements of their features through makeup application.

You’ve recently become one of QC Makeup Academy’s Student Ambassadors. Congratulations! Can you tell us a little bit about what your new role will entail?

As a Student Ambassador, my main responsibilities entail:

  • Encouraging new students who have enrolled in QC’s online makeup school
  • Providing support and encouragement within the Virtual Classroom on Facebook
  • Promoting QC Makeup Academy as an institution of quality learning
  • Creating high quality content, such as blog articles
  • Directing potential students who may have queries about QC’s online makeup school and educational process

Your makeup business specializes in editorial and bridal services. What is it about these areas of the beauty industry that appeal to you the most?

These areas appeal to me because they fit right into my style of natural, clean beauty!

What has been the most challenging (and the most rewarding) part of starting your own business?

Firstly, the most challenging part was being confident in my style. Due to social media, I observed that many persons loved the heavily applied makeup and heavily sculpted features. As a professional artist, I can create that look if needed. However, I prefer to enhance a person’s features – not transform it into something that’s not theirs.

The most rewarding is when clients request my services, and it’s because they want the natural enhancements, and they love the finished product!

How did your online makeup school training assist you in your journey of starting and running a successful MUA business?

Obtaining an education with QC Makeup Academy assisted in my journey in numerous ways:

  1. I became knowledgeable about makeup application techniques for various faces. Each client has their own unique skin tone, skin type, eye and facial shape, etc. Understanding these differences assists with providing an application that’s best suited for each individual.
  2. QC’s online makeup school has always promoted professionalism on the job, and this is a value which has greatly helped me in my interactions with clients. I always seek to maintain professionalism on the job. In fact, I’ve had many clients recognize and comment on this!
  3. QC Makeup Academy provides business insights for makeup artists, such as the development of contracts and business document templates. These customizable templates have proven incredibly useful in my own business transactions!

You graduated from QC’s Master Makeup Artistry course with flying colors! Overall, how did you find the program?

I found the Master Makeup Artistry Course to be informative and interesting! I enjoyed learning all about makeup artistry in various fields such as film, theater, and SFX. The practical assignments focusing on SFX makeup were loads of fun!

How was your experience being tutored by QC executive instructor and celebrity makeup artist, Nathan Johnson?

It was great! Having Nathan critique my work was such a confidence booster. He was always encouraging, yet critical. His feedback motivated me to continuously improve. Hearing an expert within the field commend my work made me recognize that once quality was maintained, it surpassed geographical boundaries!

What made you want to enroll in online makeup school, and why did you ultimately choose QC Makeup Academy?

Before pursuing online makeup school, I originally looked around for a brick-and-mortar school where I lived. However, the options appeared extremely limited, and I was unsure about the depth of content.

I then decided to pursue online learning. Whatever I chose, I knew it had to be flexible, as my time was already limited. Just as importantly, I had to be convinced that the online makeup school in question wasn’t a sham.

I ultimately chose QC Makeup Academy when I saw how active they are on social media. I realized it was also an established educational institution, accredited with an A+ ranking by the Better Business Bureau. All of this definitely allayed my fears, and showed me that QC is a legitimate as they come!

What advice would you give aspiring makeup artists who are considering online makeup school in order to earn their professional certification?

Go for it! “Never stop learning” is one of my stances. In this current environment, and in light of COVID-19, there’s been such a surge in online learning. It has become the new norm, and is truly the safest form of obtaining a solid education these days! Earning a professional certification can only enhance your ability, so don’t delay.

What’s in store for PAULA MONIQUE in the next year?

Glad you asked! You should look out for some educational content coming soon. Starting out as a professional makeup artist can be daunting. Breaking into the industry and finding solid, professional advice can feel a bit tricky at first. You can easily fall prey to trends promoted on social media.

I’m still learning, and will always be learning. Therefore, I invite everyone to learn alongside me as I engage industry professionals on topics surrounding makeup artistry!
