How to Recharge After a Busy Holiday Season! - QC Makeup Academy

Hi guys, and Happy New Year!

The start of a new year is an exciting and often inspiring time—you’re filled with fresh ideas and a new burst of motivation! Not to mention, most of us are raring to go after enjoying some downtime over the holidays.

However, as a makeup artist, the situation can be a little different. The holidays are a busy and popular time for bookings. Working back-to-back appointments is terrific for business—but it can also leave you feeling a little drained and ready for your own pampering session.

Taking a few days out in January to recharge your batteries might be what you need to get you feeling your best and ready for the year ahead! So here are some tips to help you start your year on a high note!

Indulge in some R&R

My first tip is an obvious one, but it’s actually one of the most important—take time to pamper yourself! One of my favorite ways to relax is to grab one of my favorite bath bombs and run a really nice bath. Not a fan of bubbles? Scheduling some “me time” can be as simple as taking some time to paint your nails or put on a face mask.

I always find that at this time of year my skin is looking a bit drab and dull, so taking the time look after my skin helps me feel revitalized!

Toss old products (and buy some new ones)

The next thing is decluttering your makeup, whether it be your own personal stash or your freelance kit. As the saying goes—tidy space, tidy mind! I find that sometimes I get stuck in a rut of using the same products over and over — even though I have a collection of some amazing products that I’ve forgotten about!

Going through your collection reminds you of all the hidden gems you’ve been neglecting and helps you reorganize them! This also gives you the chance to let go of some products that aren’t working for you that you know you’re not going to get any use out of.

Once you’ve decluttered it becomes a lot easier to see what you’re missing from your freelance kit! And what better time to get those bits than in the January sales when you can save some money! Of course, don’t forget about yourself too—if there have been some products you’ve been eyeing up and are desperate to try it may be the perfect time to treat yourself!

Reboot your social media

As a makeup artist, you know how important your digital portfolio is to booking clients. With a new year, sometimes it’s good to have a bit of a social media refresh. A good way to do this is by updating the Instagram account you use for your makeup artistry with photos of your holiday looks.

Or you could focus on adding some new photos to your website. You could also design some new business cards or create a new logo—whatever you need to do to make you feel excited about your business in the year ahead!

Create a schedule

This last tip is a bit of a general one, but it is SO important to get organized! A friend of mine recently bought me an organizer and I didn’t realize how much I needed one until I started using it!

Having too much information and dates running around in your head is unnecessarily stressful. Instead, get it all down on paper! Seeing your commitments on a page will help you think more clearly! Honestly, writing dates down is one of the best things you can do to get yourself on track.

Here’s to an amazing 2017!
