Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Kaylee and I am the author and owner of the beauty, lifestyle, and DIY blog “Obsessed with Everything” (www.kayleekarcher.com) I am 21 years old, and I am obsessed with all things beauty! I love to braid hair, I love natural beauty DIY’s, and I love to go thrift shopping! I could talk about makeup for hours on end, so I love sharing all of the beauty products I try on my blog! I’m obsessed with coffee, and Pinterest, I love living a healthy lifestyle, so I love working out at the gym, or doing hot yoga! Aaand because I feel like I have to include this; I am a dog person.

Why did you decide to go into makeup artistry? What about it appeals to you?

Ever since I was a little girl I have been in love with makeup. My most prized possession when I was younger was a neon pink glittery lipstick! I have always loved magazines and looking at the makeup in the editorials, and I loved how the fashion and the makeup told a little story. I love the glitz and the glamour, I love that you can transform yourself with makeup, and I love that a touch of makeup can be all you need to feel confident for the whole day.

I wanted to become a makeup artist because I love that a sweep of mascara can open up your eyes and make you feel immediately more confident. I don’t believe that people need makeup to feel confident, but I do believe that it does make people feel more confident, and I want to do that for people.

“For Justyne, I wanted to embrace her pale skin, light eyes, and ethereal glow. I gave her a dusting of rose gold shimmer for the eyelids, mascara, filled in her brows, and contoured her cheeks with blush. I kept the highlighter more subtle. Hair, makeup, photography, edit, by me.”

As a QC makeup student and avid beauty blogger, what’s the best advice you’ve heard about getting into the makeup industry?

The best advice I’ve heard is that developing your own style and brand is essential for really being noticed in the makeup industry. Being professional, being yourself, embracing your personal artistry, loving what you do, and being motivated and ambitious will take you anywhere. Quality work is essential and it will always pay off in the end!

What’s been the highlight of your makeup artistry course so far?

The highlight of my makeup artistry course so far is learning all of the tricks and trades of the business, and hearing personal stories from my tutor, I think it’s so exciting to hear real stories from someone with so much experience! The student discounts for higher-end makeup brands aren’t too shabby either, ha!

“For Alex, I went all matte, and all neutral. I wanted to accent her gorgeous cheek bones, and I wanted this look to be appropriate for night and day.”

How do you think QC Makeup Academy has prepared you for working in the field?

QC Makeup Academy has GREATLY prepared me for working in the makeup artistry field. Before QC, I was just another girl who was obsessed with the world of makeup. QC brought me to the next level in my ability and QC has taught me great techniques that you would only learn through schooling! QC has equipped me with the skills I need, and has given me the confidence to be a professional makeup artist.

If you could only use one makeup product for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This is a hard one. I have eyelash extensions so I don’t use mascara (it would probably be mascara if I didn’t), but I have to say highlighter! I LOVE how fresh a nice dewy glow looks!

You review a lot of products on your blog for your readers. Will you share your all-time favorite beauty product with us?

It’s extremely hard for me to pick just ONE all-time favorite beauty product because I have so many that I love (read: I feel like I am betraying them by choosing), but I would have to say that my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow pomade is my all-time favorite! The product comes in a small pot so it’s perfect for traveling, the actual product lasts forever, it can look really natural or really glam, and it stays put all day and all night! I love it so much, I don’t have one bad thing to say about it!

“This look was focused around the eyes. I did a dramatic smokey eye using dark purples and mauves from the Naked Ultimate Basics and the Tarte in bloom palette, and I added a touch of glitter to the bottom of the eye. I did a light bronzing, a coral toned blush, and (of course) I strobed highlighter throughout the face. I finished this look off with a glossed lip plumper.”
