Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Alondra, I’m 23 years old, I was born in Mexico raised in Denver. I was brought to the US at the age of three, being an immigrant in this country I have had to fight the good fight and work double for everything I want and have. My journey hasn’t been easy and giving up was never an option.  I started my career in makeup only two years ago and now I just launched my own line of 3D Faux Mink Lashes called “Make Me Glow Lashes.” I’ve come a long way and I couldn’t have done it without QC Makeup Academy.

When did you decide you wanted to take a professional makeup artistry course? What inspired you?

Friends and family would tell me how much they liked how I did my own makeup. That’s when I decided I wanted to follow my passion for cosmetics and transform it in to a business and take a professional course. It’s the best decision I have made.

Which palette could you not live without?

I could not live without my Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Contour Kits!

How did your skills evolve while/after taking (each of) your courses with QC Makeup Academy?

While taking courses with QC Makeup Academy, my skills grew tremendously. I gained knowledge in different areas like managing my business, communicating correctly and professionally, marketing and advertising, while also learning the classic techniques of each course.

Do you have a favorite style or look to do on clients?

I love doing “cut-crease” style makeup, it’s a plus if I’m asked to add glitter!

You’ve built your own brand – Make Me Glow Makeup – what were some challenges of getting your business going?

Starting new in the industry, your name hasn’t been heard of before and people are skeptical of your skills so you have to work a little harder. At the beginning I was extremely shy and scared of failure, “what if no one likes my work”? “What if this” “what if that” questions like these were always in my the back of my mind. Until I figured that fear and shyness won’t lead me to success, commitment and dedication will. My biggest challenge getting my business going… was myself.

What’s been the most rewarding part of becoming your own boss?

Freedom. Freedom to make my own decisions, and to choose when I want to work and who I want to work with. Overall the most rewarding part for me has been building a name for myself in my community and I hope one day in the world as well.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting their own makeup business?

Do it! You will love your new career. Remember to always be polite, professional, patient, and practice a lot. It won’t be easy but it will be worth it, don’t give up.
