Halloween is just around the corner and there is not a better day to get your special effects makeup on! But you don’t have to be a part of a big SFX movie to look like you just walked off one. There are some amazing products out there that will give you the big budget look without breaking the bank. Here are some of my favorite products that will help you take your Halloween makeup to the professional level!
Vampires are always a Halloween favorite and Scarecrow Vampire Fangs will be the key to making your vampire makeup look like the real thing. My favorite style of Scarecrow Vampire Fangs are the “Small Sexy Deluxe Fangs”. This style looks extremely real when applied to the teeth and have been used in several movies to create the Vampire look. The set averages about $15.00, is very easy to use and comes with everything you need to apply (and keep!) your fangs in all night long. Although the kit does come with its own application material, it can NOT be used over any kind of dental work. But do not worry because a quick tip that most people do not know about is you can absolutely use simple wax to apply the teeth regardless of whether you have veneers or crowns. Ben Nye makes a very cheap Nose and Scar wax that can be applied to the inside of the fang and will work just as well. The wax will hold the teeth in place for hours and allows for everyone to wear these realistic teeth.
No matter what your Halloween makeup is this year, this next product is something that can add a shocking surprise to anything. Kryolan makes a specialized Eye Blood that comes in a variety of colors, such as Black, Blue, Green, Yellow, and of course, Blood Red. For around $22.00, you can add in this simple, easy to use professional product to your makeup for a realistic look that will make your makeup the best in the room.
Halloween always means lots of gory SFX so another one of my favorites is the Ben Nye Deluxe 3-D Special Effects Kit for about $24.00. This kit includes everything you will need to create a professional looking makeup. The kit comes complete with three dimensional products like wax, liquid latex and spirit gum adhesive, which will allow you to create everything from a broken nose or massive cut, to a torn open face. There is a professional quality four color SFX makeup palette and blood to finish off your newly created wounds, as well as a professional style brush and sponges. And the best thing about this great Halloween kit…It comes with step-by-step application instructions to help you achieve the professional makeup look that will have people admiring your awesome SFX skills!
If youβre a Sci-Fi fan like me, then you will love this last favorite! Whether you are doing a Pixie, Troll, Alien or Monster, a great add-in to get your makeup noticed is Glow In The Dark makeup. Rubie’s Costume Co. makes a get set of glow in the dark makeup sticks for around $8.00 that can be easily applied as everything from eyeliner or eyeshadow, to glowing blood coming from an aliens mouth. Every time you step near a black light your makeup will take on an eerie change that will make people stop in their tracks to take a look.
