But in this post, we\u2019re giving you some tips on what to look out for AND how to handle awkward friend situations if they come up. Especially for a freelance makeup artist, every appointment can make or break your weekly income.\n\nIf your friends want to help you out by booking some appointments, be thankful\u2014book them and get a referral! However, you also need to stand your ground if they hint at a discounted rate \u201cbecause of your friendship.\u201d Asking for a discount is way different than you offering one. Your friends know how tough it is to start up a makeup business, and so they should be willing to pay for your hard work! Unless you\u2019ve offered to practise on them for free. In that case, be upfront in the beginning.\n\nIf you find this happening all too often, you may be better off recommending your friends to another artist. Of course you want their business, but it\u2019s more important to establish your business. If your friends refer you because of your \u201cdiscount rates,\u201d it may be hard to get other clients to pay full price!\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"They_assume_youll_do_their_makeup\"><\/span>They assume you&#8217;ll do their makeup<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\nMakeup artistry is hard work\u2014we don\u2019t need to tell you! And some days, you just want to have a relaxing evening out with your friends. However, don\u2019t feel bad about standing your ground if you\u2019re not up to it. Your friends don\u2019t want to bring their work home with them either, right? Let them know you want to hang out and don\u2019t want to feel like you\u2019re working. After all, every application you do involves a lot of skill\u2014you need rest, too!\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"They_try_to_give_advice\"><\/span>They try to give advice<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\nThis can be a tricky point to navigate with your friends, since they only have your best interests at heart! We all try to give our friends logical advice when facing tough decisions. Yet, if they aren\u2019t professional makeup artists, you\u2019re better off sticking to your own decisions!\n\nThis doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t get an outside perspective on some things. But when it comes to working in the beauty industry, you\u2019re the one with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qcmakeupacademy.com\/online-makeup-courses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">professional makeup training<\/a>! This is where networking comes in handy. Knowing contacts in your industry can give you someone to go to for advice (who you know will see it from a makeup artist\u2019s viewpoint!).\n\nAnd if your friends are prone to offering advice, don\u2019t shoot them down. From working long days, to booking a weekend wedding, or scheduling evening appointments\u2014each week is different! Your friends need to accept that your job differs from the strict schedule of an office job. Of course you\u2019d love to be there for them, but you also have to stick to work commitments.\n\nIf you find yourself feeling guilty for having to work, it may be time to re-evaluate your friends\u2019 priorities. They may not even realize you feel bad about having to work. Whatever the case, this is your dream and your livelihood.
