#TBT: My Biggest Makeup Regrets - QC Makeup Academy

Hi guys! Today I’m here to share with you some of my embarrassing makeup fails from my younger years! I’m sure a lot of you will agree with me when I say looking back at your teenage makeup can be a cringing, but amusing experience! So, let the cringing commence…

Goodbye Eyebrows

Believe it or not, when I was younger the ‘in’ thing was to have pencil-thin eyebrows consisting of a single hair. So of course, 13 year old me took a razor (because for some reason I was scared of tweezers) and hacked away at my poor brows. As you can imagine, the result was a very gappy, uneven mess! I wasn’t even aware that brow makeup was a thing back then so there was no saving me. When I eventually realised that this half eyebrow look was not the look for me, I decided to give tweezers a go and the same thing pretty much happened all over again! Moral of the storyโ€”leave your eyebrows alone!

Foundation Fails

The next thing is what I like to call the ‘Orange Dream Matte Mousse Look.’ When I first properly started to wear makeup, the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation was the most popular foundation everyone used. As you can guess, it was kind of (really) awful! Bear in mind that none of us bothered with brushes back then. You’d have to scrape a crater of mousse out of the jar and smear it all over your face. The result would be a patchy matte mess that would cling to any imperfections, and yes, chin foundation lines made you look even cooler.

The worst part of this product is that the lightest shade on me was so so so orange yet I still plastered it all over my face every day! What was I even thinking? I think they have expanded the shade range massively now, so that’s a relief!

We have to talk about itโ€”the foundation lips. Honestly, the idea of ever putting foundation on my lips now makes me cringe to no end, but back then it was just what you did. The aim was to make your face as one toned as possible, including your lips.

Panda Eyes

The last thing comes from 16-17 year old me, and that was my major panda eyes phase. I went from avoiding eyeliner because I could never get it right, to doing a complete 360 and putting on as much as possible! I would do a line of liquid liner on my lids followed by a line of liquid liner under my lash lineโ€ฆ and then to top it off a line of pencil on my water line! You don’t even want to know how many makeup wipes it took every day to take all of that off!

Teens these days are so lucky that they have access to YouTube tutorials and decent shade ranges. 15-year-old me hadn’t even heard of the word contouring! As bad as those makeup days were, I’ve definitely learnt a lot of lessons from them and it’s fun to look back and reminisce!
