Hair Styling Essentials Sneak Peek: Stocking Your Kit - QC Makeup Academy

Just yesterday our very own 5-in-1 curling wands arrived at the QC Headquarters! Here, take a look at how beautiful they are:

And today we’re excited to share with you a sneak peek of the Hair Styling Essentials course that is accompanied by those fabulous wands!

Follow along with QC Host and Executive Makeup Aritst, Nathan Johnson, and introduce yourself to QC’s Hair Styling Essentials instructor and celebrity hair stylist, Laurie Vukich, as we provide a snippet of the “Stocking Your Stylist Kit” lesson!

In this clip, you’ll see the beginnings of Laurie’s be-all-end-all, can-do-anything kit! Or as Laurie calls it, her “magic bag.”

Let’s Review

In your own kit, you’ll want to consider a mini hair kit filled with various products in small portions for easy access and transportation. This can include shampoo, dry shampoo, water, iron guard, hair glue and hair glue remover, hand sanitizer, beach spray, hair fiber, hair putty and paste, and more. As you’ll see Laurie explain, it can also be very useful to have hair color palettes on hand.

Something you may not have considered in your kit are Ziploc bags. These are useful for many reasons, but particularly handy for storing used brushes and combs so as not to make your entire bag, and its contents, unsanitary.

Superglue is an important staple in Laurie’s kit as there have been many times it has proven its worth. For example, to make an extension ring.

In your kit, you should also consider an accessory bag. This should include various hair accessories like headbands, ribbon, lace, and even re-purposed jewelry.

So remember, setting yourself up for success means having a well-stocked kit. As Nathan so beautifully puts it, “an artist can only be as successful as they prepare themselves to be,” so keep this in mind as you’re putting together your own styling kit.

I was wondering if hairstyling essentials will be covering everything or will there be different courses within? Like hair coloring specialist… men’s styling…. Etc?

    • Ana Scholtes says:

Hi April, thanks for your comment! In the Hair Styling Essentials course there is a lesson on men’s styling and grooming that covers topics like working with different types on hair on men, period styles for men, products and tools for male hair styling, and grooming facial hair. This course is strictly styling the hair and does not teach hair cutting or coloring. I hope this helps! 🙂

Unfortunately I don’t have much over information to send to you at this point, so be sure to stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the course launch.
